Long time no see. This is a portrait of my son's classmate. He's an adorable cute little boy, very clever and funny, too. The photo I used was quite good, nevertheless, I had to imagine some colors and values, which actually led me to three important clues:
No 1: If the light of a photo isn't good, so will be the portrait. I decided to take photos only on daylight, because lightbulbs give light in a distorted way.
No 2: Νever start a painting without thorough measurment. It is better to spend some time measuring distances than to be in the awkward position of making corrections, that eventually burden the painting with lots of extra paint, not to mention the disgusting feeling of having to redo something all the way again...
No 3: When doing a painting it is recommended to have some north light, instead of the warmth of common lights, because the next day when you see your painting, the colors will look faded. I haven't managed to get a bulb with north light but what I do, is I have a combination of some bluish light and common light.
I'm very happy with this painting which actually took me about three hours from start to finish.
